To understand these concepts, we have to accept the premise that we are souls who have had many lifetimes on Earth, and in other locations, so that we have had the chance to experience everything and to feel the impacts of those experiences. We may think that we have had only a few past lives, but it could be thousands or millions. After living one life, we leave our body behind, pass into the non-physical world, and plan our next incarnation.
Our past lives are full of experiences and those experiences could be influencing situations in our current lives. For example, in a past life, we may have mastered piano playing. In this life, we might be a piano prodigy. Another example: In a past life, we may have drowned. This life, we have a fear of water.
How can we become aware of our past lives? I see three major ways:
1) Regressions. We can work with someone such as a hypnotist, or a psychic, who is trained to do past-life work. When we are exploring our subconscious, we can relive and describe out loud what we have experienced. This is the most direct, convincing way of recapturing past-life information because we see it ourselves and we describe the lifetime in our voice.
Sometimes, reliving a past-life trauma fixes an issue in this life. It may help us understand why things are the way they are, or it may release the need to continue exploring a situation.
Of course, some of our past lives were happy ones, or ones with greatly satisfying moments. We need to appreciate these lives too.
2) Deja vu. We can walk into an unknown location and realize that we already know where old buildings are located. From flashes of insight, we can know that we lived in the area in previous lifetimes.
3) Past-life readings. During a past-life reading, a psychic will see our past lives and describe them to us.
Here are a few insights from several psychics about how past-life readings work:
1) When I do a reading, a regression, or a channeling, I go with the specific intent that it's to heal somebody in some way. It's for a positive outcome. Because of that, I'm only shown what is necessary for them at that time. I say, “Show us a lifetime that has something to teach us here and now, or that the person needs to be aware of, here and now.”
2) I don't fix anything. I don’t want to change their life or alter their Karma.
3) When a person is in front of you, everything that they have ever been is right there. Even though we have the experience of traveling to another place to observe the other life, it's right there in that moment. They are presenting themselves to you in your life. In some ways, you aren’t really doing anything. You're just looking at them.
4) [Another psychic] I would like to expand on that. The person is in front of you. You're providing the access point for them. On a spiritual level, they are choosing what they are going to see or experience. That's what they are ready for at that time, to move them to the next level.
5) A couple of months ago, a client asked me for a past-life reading. It was my first one and it was astounding. When I got back, I felt strange.
It was awesome to watch this man and to live his life. I didn't have the historical knowledge for the area of the world where I was, to know the time period. I was able to read about it later and place it in the later half of the 19th century in Ethiopia.
It was fascinating. I learned about how people interacted on many levels of society.
6) It is possible to observe another person’s past lives without that person being aware of the work being done. However, there are ethical questions regarding privacy and Karma. Most readers won’t read for anyone without the person’s permission.
One psychic said, “I know this person very well and we're close. Without telling them, I talked to spirit and went to their past life. I didn't want to interfere. I didn't want to affect Karma in any way. All I wanted to do was see if I could get a view, a perspective, of what was occurring in their current situation. I've given it a lot of thought and I cannot understand the matter. The past-life information made the situation clearer to understand.”
Another psychic responded, “The way in which I would approach it is that I would do it as something positively Karmic for them. Rather than saying it's not going to affect them either way.”
I heard something else which I found interesting: during a past-life regression, the person guiding the regression, the client, and everyone else in the room, gets some kind of healing energy.
We all have important roles to play.
Years ago, a psychic channeled this message, “Some of you have come as the grandest manifestation of who you are. You have come to assist. You have come to fulfill different roles for different reasons. The evolution of the soul is not just about your own growth, it is about you returning in your compassion and understanding, to assist those who are struggling in a particular life. You may not grow much in that particular incarnation, but you came down to assist others, to bring information, to give them that ‘aha’ moment.”
I have a lot of “aha moments.” How about you?
